When is Botox the Answer?

Botox is a household name for anyone who knows anything about cosmetic treatments. Botox has been widely used and FDA approved cosmetic solution for almost 20 years. All of this recognition is for good reason. Botox has helped several thousand men and women feel more comfortable with the aging process and preserve the look that makes them feel confident.

While Botox is not new news, there is new cutting-edge tech in the cosmetic industry every year that addresses the skin priorities that men and women develop during the aging process. This means that for every problem, there may be multiple solutions that can help. It can be difficult to choose the best solution for your specific issue when several trendy treatments are thrown around as the “next big thing” or “our current favorite.”

New technology is great, but sometimes a classic solution is the best fix for a classic problem. While there are widespread situations in which Botox can provide a remedy, the best possible way to understand the right treatment for your skin is to talk to a trusted medical practitioner who specializes in the intricacies of cosmetic treatments. To get the most out of your discussion and know what questions to ask, here are some situations in which Botox can be a recommended solution, and situations in which some alternative treatments prevail.

When should you use Botox?

First, here is a quick refresher on what Botox does. Injecting Botox blocks the connection between nerves and muscles, causing acute paralysis. Blocking the usage of these muscles hinders the development of wrinkles caused by continuous movement. Eventually and gradually, these wrinkles diminish in appearance due to lack of muscle usage and thickened skin. The effects of Botox lasts 3-6 months and may last longer over time.

Here are conditions Botox may be the recommended treatment:

When excessive muscle usage is causing the signs of aging

We know w furrowing of brows, smiling, frowning, concentration faces and squinting at the sun causes wrinkles. All of these movements will eventually create visible lines in our skin. If we stop making these movements, we will stop the development of new wrinkles.

When you feel like you look sad/tired/angry all the time

Are you tired of people asking if you got enough sleep? Or your spouse gauging your annoyance level by glancing at your forehead? If you want to stop showcasing your negative emotions through your wrinkles and gain more of an emotional poker face, Botox can help. By freezing key spots on your face, you don’t need to worry everyone you come across knowing that you had a stressful morning.

When you have one specific ‘problem area’

Many people don’t necessarily buy into a full cosmetic treatment regimen, but just want one specific wrinkle taken care of. Maybe you are perfectly happy with your face, except for one prominent forehead wrinkle. If you want to keep a natural look while still taking care of one problem area, minimal Botox injections in the specific problem area can help you achieve that natural yet refreshed look.

When should you try a different treatment?

Botox does address many concerns people develop around aging skin – but what about the skin priorities that are best addressed by other cosmetic treatments? Here are some situations where we may recommend other treatments:

When the problem isn’t stemming from wrinkles

Wrinkles can be the main skin problem, but not the only problem. Dark spots, acne scars, sun damage, discoloration, and texture are also key factors to the appearance of aging skin. When these issues are the main driver for cosmetic treatments, other skin solutions would be prioritized.

For skin discoloration and dark spots due to UV exposure, laser treatments like PicoSure™ will clear away excess pigment to make your skin look younger.

When you want to improve and skin sagging and fine lines

As we age, the skin decreases the production of collagen, a chemical that keeps our skin tight. That means we may notice looser, dull skin. For the appearance of tighter and brighter skin, treatments like TempSure™ can give you the results you are looking for.

TempSure™ will tighten sagging skin around the cheeks, jowls, and neck for a more youthful appearance, and can help with widespread fine lines.

If the main aging issue you want to tackle is fine lines and overall skin texture, Elite MPX™ laser treatments are an affordable way to stimulate collagen and healthy skin cell growth for an overall improvement of texture and fine lines.

When you want to ‘fill out’ your look

One of the myths about Botox that needs to be busted is that is ‘fills out’ existing wrinkles. Botox does not ‘fill out’ existing wrinkles – it relaxes muscles to impede wrinkle development. If you are looking for a solution to restore a healthy, robust look, filler treatments are the way to go.

The G Spa offers filler treatments that tackle common problem areas that are notorious for the appearance of aging skin. Filler treatments like Bellafill™ last up to 5 years and can tackle deep wrinkles to facial scarring. Treatments like Juvederm™ are perfect for plumping lips, cheeks, and mid-face to counteract volume loss and provide a subtle lift.

It’s easy to get lost in the number of solutions with all of these options. Now that you have the options at hand, it’s important to refer to a medical practitioner for an expert opinion. We at The G Spa are happy to answer any questions about Botox as the best option for your skin priorities, or if there is another treatment that best addresses your needs.
