How to Shed Dull Skin — Your Guide To Chemical Peels

Every day your skin is bombarded. Product, sun exposure, and other environmental factors impact your skin from the outside, while aging, stress, diet, etc. attack from the inside to leave their mark as well. The built-up damage can become all too visible leaving your skin in need of a fresh start. Chemical peels can deliver that much-needed resurfacing!

At the G Spa, we can help you find the best chemical peel to meet your goals. Our peels can address acne, scarring, large pores, discoloration, dullness, fine lines, uneven texture, and tone.  We’ll start by addressing what and how a chemical peel works!

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses a solution of acids to target, strip, or “peel” away the skin’s damaged outer layers. Some peels are applied and absorbed, while deeper peels generally need to be “neutralized” (removed or countered) to stop the action of the ingredients. In the days following your peel, the damaged skin layers will peel and flake off, revealing a fresh layer of smoother, healthier skin.

In addition to shedding off outer layers, the peel also enhances the new layer of skin. The peel’s destruction of the epidermis stimulates the skin’s regenerative process.  Skin wonder-working proteins like collagen and elastin are produced to help tighten and make your new skin GLOW.

Which Chemical Peel is Best for Me?

Chemical peels are not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Instead, they range in depth and intensity.

With minor skin issues, light topical peels can be effective. For example, light peels can help brighten and even out skin tone, with minimal flaking. On the other hand, for more serious issues, middle to deep peels activate higher concentrations of ingredients to bring about the desired results. These peels help minimize deep acne scarring, wrinkles, etc. with heavier flaking and peeling.

Finding the best peel for you depends on the issue(s) you are treating, your skin tone, your medical history, and your personal goals. To determine which peel is right for you, it’s best to meet with a provider, like the experts at The G Spa, one-on-one to discuss your needs, desired goals, and medical history.

Note: While getting a chemical peel may seem simple, the skill of your provider is key.  Here at the G Spa, we have the expertise to minimize risks and avoid adverse side effects.

5 Chemical Peels that Shed Dull Skin & Make Your Skin GLOW!

1. Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel by SkinMedica is one of The G Spa’s most popular treatments!  This medium-deep peel penetrates the skin’s surface to help renew and shed damaged skin through the use of alpha-hydroxy and retinoic acid.

First, the target skin is cleaned. Then the peel is applied, and you may experience mild warmth or tingling. This sensation goes away as the solution is neutralized and removed from the face. You can expect 2-5 days of moderate peeling.

The Vitalize peel can improve the tone and even out the color of your skin while minimizing fine lines and smoothing out the skin’s texture.

2. Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel is The G Spa’s strongest chemical peel.

Permeating to the deeper epidermis layers, this peel addresses moderate to severe skin issues with its enhanced formula. The Rejuvenize peel uses a blend of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other ingredients to deeply exfoliate the skin.

While one peel will lead to results, 3-6 are recommended for maximum results. You can expect 2-5 days of moderate peeling.

3. PCA Sensi Peel

One of the most well-tolerated peels, the Sensi Peel is a great option for patients with even the most sensitive skin.

The Sensi Peel combines a  6% TCA blend along with lactic acid, kojic acid, and citric acid to create a gentle — but effective — peel.

This superficial peel will help brighten, minimize fine lines and wrinkles, and even out overall skin tone.

4. PCA Peel with Hydroquinone and Resorcinol

Designed for thicker, oiler, or more resilient skin types, PCA PEEL with Hydroquinone and Resorcinol can tackle some of the toughest skin issues.

Hydroquinone is a skin-lightening agent that minimizes the appearance of hyperpigmentation, such as age spots and melasma. Resorcinol works to exfoliate and soften the skin.

Together this blend penetrates and exfoliates further than many peels to minimize deep wrinkles and acne scarring and improve the skin’s overall appearance and tone.

5. PCA Body Peel

The gentle PCA body peel is ideal for first-time patients looking to address unwanted spots or blemishes on their bodies and enjoy glowing, refreshed skin.

The peel may be applied to polish the arms, legs, back, or other areas.  The PCA body peel can treat a variety of skin concerns: acne outbreaks, sun spots, freckles, clogged pores, and uneven skin texture and tone.

Like other PCA peels, it might not be the best option for those with sensitive skin.
