three generations of women

Hormone, Menopause
and GYNecological Services at The G Spa

Dr. Griffin is a Board-Certified OB-GYN physician who graduated from UCLA School of Medicine, is fellowship trained, and a Certified Menopause Clinician. Practicing for over 25 years, she understands the needs of women. The G Spa offers comprehensive Women’s Wellness across many categories and services.

Annual Evaluations

A thorough medical history will be taken and a physical examination, including breast evaluation and complete pelvic examination will be done, including Pap smear and HPV testing when indicated. Sexually transmitted infection screening can be done including HIV and herpes screening.

Preventive Care

When appropriate, discussion will include smoking cessation, weight control, cholesterol management, breast cancer screening options including mammogram, thermogram, ultrasound or MRI, sexually transmitted disease evaluation, osteoporosis screening, and ordering and interpretation of laboratory blood tests.

Counseling for determining the best fit of contraceptive method for each patient, as well as education regarding the risks, benefits and effectiveness is a standard approach.

Dr. Griffin has been performing vaginal ultrasound for over 25 years, for assessment of early pregnancy, ovarian cysts and heavy periods, to name just a few indications. She is also skilled in performing saline ultrasound (also called sonohysterography), which is an efficient way to diagnose the cause of irregular or heavy bleeding and sometimes helps to avoid having to do a painful uterine biopsy.

First Pelvic Examination

Having worked at Planned Parenthood in the past, Dr. Griffin has honed her skill as one able to make the very first pelvic examination a pleasant experience. Although a teenager that is not sexually active no longer needs a Pap smear according to current guidelines, Dr. Griffin feels that it is important to have one’s first exam under controlled conditions when everything can be gently and slowly explained, rather than say, in an emergency room. Your memory of that first experience stays with you for a long time!

Dr. Griffin feels adept in offering comprehensive evaluation and treatment of PMS, as well as PMDD (Pre-menstrual Dysphoric Disorder), using lifestyle changes, nutrition, supplements, herbs, and medications. As depression and low thyroid often coexist, Dr. Griffin is able to treat those as well.

The G Shot®

G-Spot Amplification™
The G-SHOT® is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily augment the Grafenburg spot (G-Spot) bringing enhanced sexual arousal/gratification in sexually active women with normal sexual function.

The G-Shot® is a painless procedure performed in our office. The actual injection takes less than 15 seconds and the total office visit time is usually less than 30 minutes. It is much like being examined for a PAP smear. The doctor will do a pelvic exam using a specially designed speculum to assist in the delivery of a specified amount of high molecular weight hyaluronic filler directly into the G-Spot after local anesthesia is placed. The G-Shot® augments (enlarges) the G-Spot. This results in a G-Spot about the size of a quarter in width and ¼” in height (meaning the projection into the vagina). After this a tampon is placed (the tampon is to be removed in 4 hours). The most common side effect following injection includes scant bleeding from the needle injection site. In it’s pilot study 87% of the women reported positive results. Although results do vary, the benefits may last 4-5 months.

Within 4 hours you can resume normal sexual activity. There’s no recovery time needed. You’re ready to get on with your day!

Thyroid Consults

Dr. Griffin maintains an interest in treating an underserved population that has multiple low thyroid symptoms, but “normal” thyroid blood test results. Her experience tells her that sometimes taking even a small amount of thyroid supplement and raising one’s level from the low end of normal to the middle range of normal can result in a major positive benefit in one’s overall well-being, described by some patients as “a small miracle.”  She is also an advocate of adding T3 to one’s regimen or utilizing so called “natural thyroid,” or Armour thyroid, when symptoms are not relieved by more typical thyroid replacement.

Hormone Replacement Consults

Dr Griffin is adept in offering comprehensive evaluations and treatments for hormone replacement, often utilizing bio-identical hormones.  Because of general confusion regarding the definition of “bio-identical” hormones, Dr. Griffin adheres to the standards of the North American Menopause Society.

Often asked if she is “for” hormones, or if she prescribes them, Dr. Griffin feels that every woman, if properly educated and presented the pros and cons of HRT, given that individual’s history and symptoms, can make the decision herself, or at least with some guidance.  The challenge is to deliver and receive truthful information that is constantly changing.
